Abstract [en] : From an early age we learn what is considered girly and boyish. It covers everything from colors and clothing to behavior and even occupations, and it is widely known that there areindustries that are male-or female-dominant. The construction industry and the health and social care sector belongs to these types of occupations. The purpose of this study is to get employees working in construction or health and social care sector to describe their field through a gender perspective. The theories used are Yvonne Hirdmans gender system of masculine and feminine norms, rules and perceptions, vertical and horizontal segregation and economic theories about external influences on an individual's career choice and anemployer's valuation of male and female employees. The results show that the informants in both sectors are experiencing a little more even gender balance due to an ongoing transformation of their industries and society in general, but it will take time to smooth out the gender distribution even further. Both men and women are equally suited for both sectors and all informants have the impression that gender balance is beneficial to everyone working in the industry.
