Abstract [en] : During the 1940s the campaign to get people to stay “a job for life” started. It became the norm to work in the same place for a very long time; often with a gold watch as a reward for 25 years of service. Amid the 5,762 permanent employees within the 11 departments of Sjöstadens municipality (2013) there are 1,438 people that have been in the employ of the municipality for at least 25 years. Why have they stayed so long? The purpose of this study is to investigate whether employees and managers who have worked 25 years or longer believe that Sjöstadens municipality is an attractive employer and if there is any difference in how employees and managers view the municipality as an employer. I also wanted by this study, to find out if employment in Sjöstadens municipality is perceived as a secure job. The eight interviews (four with managers and four with employees) sought to find out why employees and managers sought employment in Sjöstadens municipality, what is most important in the workplace and how the municipality is perceived as an employer. The results show that managers feel the work exciting and challenging. For employees, there has been a greater employment security that has been crucial for them to stay. Both managers and employees perceive the municipality as a good employer and are willing to recommend others to apply to municipality of Sjöstadens.
