Abstract : The internal friction of 6N purity polycrystalline aluminium has been measured in the temperature range from 80 to 260K at a frequency of about 23kHz. The height and temperature of the Bordoni peak were studied for longitudinal vibrations of cylindrical rods after various amounts of extension at room temperature, and the effects of annealing at room temperature were also investigated. The results are compared with measurements on aluminium reported by other authors, and indicate that the Bordoni peak is much larger and occurs at an appreciably higher temperature for 6N aluminium than for specimens of lower purity.
