Abstract : The complexes NiX2PR32 X = Cl, Br ; R = Ph, Et, which are precursors to alkene oligomerisation catalysts, have been investigated by Ni K-edge EXAFS. Bond lengths on polycrystalline samples were within 3% of those derived by X-ray diffraction. The precision of the parameters obtained on NiCl2PPh32 is substantially less than that relating to the bromo analogue. EXAFS spectra of NiBr2PR32 R = Et, Ph in toluene solution indicate no change in bond lengths on dissolution, Transmittance Ti K-edge EXAFS data on an alkene metathesis catalyst TiCH2AlMe2Clη-C5H52 in frozen toluene solution and as a solid indicate the expected structure with Ti-CH2 1.95 Å, Ti-Cl 2.40 Å and Ti

.Al 3.05 Å.
