Abstract : A bismuth antimony oxide Bi3SbO7 has been isolated in the Bi2O3-Sb2O5 system. DTA and X-ray diffraction analysis have shown that this compound undergoes a polymorphic transformation at about 1050°C. Both varieties have a fluorite related structure close to the Ln3SbO7 one. The relative stability of the two polymorphs has been studied for the Bi3-xLnxSbO7 solid solutions where Ln=La, Nd and Gd. Low and hyperfrequency measurements of the dielectric constant, temperature coefficient and dielectric losses have been performed on sintered ceramics between room temperature and 100°C. The results show that Bi3SbO7 should be a basic compound for the elaboration of new microwave dielectric resonators.
