New microscale techniques have becomeavailable to assist urban designers in better watermanagement. Urban water management has focusedon two different areas: stormwater, and water supply. The focus of stormwater management is shiftingtowards Low-Impact Development, which emphasizesbetter management of urban stormwater throughreductions in postdevelopment runoff by increasingonsite infiltration. Water supply planning has beenenhanced by the emergence of the field of end-usedemand management; the focus of much of which hasbeen on outdoor irrigation. Implementation of thesetwo objectives requires evaluation of processes atsmaller scales in order to focus on changes beingcontemplated at a parcel level. A modeling approachis presented which incorporates decentralized optionsfor management of both stormwater and urban watersupply. Management options that can be evaluatedwith this approach include restrictive irrigationpolicies and rainwater harvesting. A simpler modelbased upon SCS Soil Conservation Servicehydrology is then calibrated to the more complexmodel using a commercially available nonlinearsolver. A method for calculation of costs to theconsumer and evaluation of total system cost ispresented.
