The newly formed Metropolitan NorthGeorgia Water Planning District District is assessingthe water supply, wastewater and watershedmanagement needs for a 16-county area includingmetropolitan Atlanta. Over the next 30 years, theDistrict is expecting close to a 100 percent increase inpopulation, from about four million to nearly eightmillion people. The amount of potable water supplyneeded was determined through the use of a waterdemand-forecasting model, the Least Cost PlanningDecision Support System DSS. Water conservationmeasures were added to the model to determine theirpotential effectiveness and select measures appropriatefor the District to implement.
