In 2006, Montreal joined the Creative Cities Network as was named -UNESCO City of Design-. Sincethe tabling of the report of Richard Florida on Montreal, the city wished to move towards the objectiveof the Creative City, as did many cities internationally. In this context, the city of Montrealwas trying to attract and retain creators so that they could develop their careers and contribute tothis Creative City image. We analyzed the particular situation of immigrant artists and creatorsand the way they built their career in Montreal. As other artists and designers, they moved betweenthe art world and the world of entrepreneurship, two apparently conflicting worlds, whichthey needed to bring together for a successful career, and this was their main challenge.
