Choirmaster to Francis I, Claudin de Sermisy c. 1490-1562 is the most representative Parisian composer of the early French sixteenth century. His works include over 200 polyphonic French chansons, over 50 motets, psalms, sequences, at least one Lamentation, one Passion, and thirteen Masses. Many of his polyphonic chansons and motets were used in parody Masses by other composers of the Renaissance, and the music of his polyphonic chanson Il me suffit de tous mes maux has come down to us under the form of the Protestant chorale Was mein Gott will which J.S. Bach harmonized in his St. Matthew Passion. The modern transcriptions of the music of the Masses of Claudin included in the first Appendix of the dissertation presented here, was done in the 1:2 ratio

.Accidental signs were added according to the instructions for solmization in Maximilian Guilliaud-s Rudiments de Musique pratigue published in Paris by Nicolas du Chemin in 1554. The placement of the Latin text under the notes was done according to good Latin accentuation, melodic phraseology, and the sixteenth-century rules formulated by Zarlino. TRUNCATEDRights
