The present study aimed atproviding a plausible answer for the controversy whether organizational sourceor associative source could be encoded in a more automatic manner throughincidental learning. In the experiment, subjects were asked to learnorganizational and associative sources under incidental or intentional learningconditions. It turned out that only associative source accuracy increased whensubjects were instructed to intentionally learn that source, which implied thatassociative source might be encoded in a more effortful way, whereas processingof organizational source might be performed incidentally.
