End-users, who are projected to outnumber professionalprogrammers in the next decade, present aunique opportunity to understand how computer scienceknowledge is acquired in the real world. Weconducted an analysis of projects created by end-userprogrammers to discern their adoption of introductorycomputing constructs. A variety of project sizes wererepresented in the data, ranging from fewer than 100lines of source code to greater than 1500. Many introductorycomputing constructs were highly adopted, but some were relatively unused. As these variations inadoption could be indications of topic complexity, wecompared our findings to previous work in the noviceprogramming literature. Additionally, a data-drivenanalysis provided insight into user sharing and reusepractices. Many distinct approaches to copyright andcode ownership concerns were found in the projectsstudied, and their potential impact on end-user learningwas considered.
