Silk fibroin-CaSiO3 composite scaffolds were prepared by solvent casting-particulate leaching method. The as-prepared composite scaffolds showed high porosity and interconnected pores of about 150-300 μm in diameter. XRD analysis suggested that the SF was in Silk II structure. The compressive modulus and compressive strength of composite scaffolds decreased along with the increase of the content of porogen, but the porosity showed opposite trend. XRD, field emission scanning electron microscopy FESEM and energy-dispersive spectrometer EDS analysis showed that the composite scaffold was completely covered by hydroxycarbonate apatite layers after soaking in SBF for 7 days. All these results indicated that the silk fibroin-CaSiO3 composite scaffold may be potential candidates as bioactive scaffold for tissue repair and tissue engineering application.
