The boehmite crystal with hierarchical structure assembled by nanosheets has been prepared via a simple hydrothermal route using AlCl3·6H2O as a precursor. The crystal structure, morphology and textural property of the resulting material was characterized by X-ray diffraction XRD, scanning electron microscopy SEM, transmission electron microscopy TEM and N2 adsorption-desorption method. The experiment results indicated that the products obtained after 3 h displayed 3D nanostructures with the length of ca. 800 nm and diameter of ca. 200 nm. And the size of particles was uniform. During the reaction, DMF played a key role in the formation of the 3D nanostructures. According to the experiment results, the possible formation mechanism of the boehmite with hierarchical structure was proposed and discussed. Finally, the adsorption performance of as-prepared boehmite was measured by using Congo red as an adsorbate.
