The Fe3O4 nanoparticles modified by sodium oleate with a diameter of 10-25 nm were prepared by coprecipitation. The inductive heating property of nano Fe3O4 water-based magnetic fluid in an alternating current magnetic field was investigated. The potential of the nano Fe3O4 water-based magnetic fluid was evaluated for tumor thermotherapy. FT-IR spectrum shows the sodium oleate was absorbed on the magnetite surface via chemical adsorption. When the coprecipitation temperature were 80℃, the inductive heating property of the nano Fe3O4 water-based magnetic fluids increased first and then decreased with the molar ratio of Fe2+ and Fe3+. As the molar ratio of Fe2+ and Fe3+ was more than 2:1, exposed in the alternating current magnetic field for 1 min, the temperatures of the Fe3O4 water-based nano-magnetic fluids were higher than 45 ℃. When the molar ratio of Fe2+ and Fe3+ were 4:1, the inductive heating property of the nano Fe3O4 water- based magnetic fluids increased first and then decreased with the coprecipitation temperature. As the coprecipitation temperature was higher than 50℃, exposed in the alternating current magnetic field for 1 min, the temperatures of the Fe3O4 water-based nano-magnetic fluids were higher than 45℃. The nano Fe3O4 water- based magnetic fluids will be useful for tumor thermotherapy.
