Abstract : This chapter focuses on the characteristics of networks of confidence about sexual and love affairs in various categories of the French population. It shows differences between genders, ages, and socioeconomic status: it reveals that members of some categories appear unable to discuss about sexuality. Active women discuss less often with colleagues than men, preferring family contacts. The third part of the paper analyses the social selectivity of relations of confidence: do people discuses with persons similar to them? Using P.Blau methodology to define the ‘null hypothesis- of random choices gives the possibility to distinguish patterns of homophilic choices resulting of an excess of self selection and those resulting a lack of contact with others categories (for example young vs elder people). The last part compares long lasting and recent confident relations. Everyone renew his-her confident network during their life cycle, more when younger, and more when having a large network. Using a logistic regression we show that long lasting relations link partners of same sex and same age, but not same socio economic status, who meet less frequently. This result support the hypothesis of a special kind of friendship formed during important life event (Ferrand, 1985).
