2011 Annual Activity Report December 2012 Library Universidad Carlos III of Madrid In appreciation In 2011 two people who have been very important to this organisation left us; two people who worked for many years to achieve what the Library is today. One of them was Paloma Crego, Subdirector of the Service, who passed away from an illness in March at just 49 years of age.
The other person who left us, fortunately into retirement, is Margarita Taladriz, the Director of the Service from the beginnings of this University library. To both of them, our appreciation and fondest memories. 2011 Activity Report 2 Universidad Carlos III of Madrid Library Index Budget .4 Collection .6 Services .8 Indicators .14 2011 Activity Report 3 Library Universidad Carlos III of Madrid Budget The situation i n 2011 was a continuation of the budget cutbacks begun in 2009. This reduction affected the Library in several areas. In the Human Resources budget: 1.
Fellowships were reduced and as a consequence so was support for tasks related to user services that had been available in the past.
In this regard, timetables had to be reduced in some cases. 2.
For library personnel training, free-of-charge activities were increased.
Attendance at free courses and conferences held in Madrid or virtual and distance courses were promoted in an effort to avoid course costs and travelling expenses. 3.
