Abstract: We discuss techniques and results for the extraction of the nucleon-sspin-dependent parton distributions and their uncertainties from data forpolarized deep-inelastic lepton-nucleon and proton-proton scattering by meansof a global QCD analysis. Computational methods are described thatsignificantly increase the speed of the required calculations to a level thatallows to perform the full analysis consistently at next-to-leading orderaccuracy. We examine how the various data sets help to constrain differentaspects of the quark, anti-quark, and gluon helicity distributions. Uncertaintyestimates are performed using both the Lagrange multiplier and the Hessianapproaches. We use the extracted parton distribution functions and theirestimated uncertainties to predict spin asymmetries for high-transversemomentum pion and jet production in polarized proton-proton collisions at 500GeV center-of-mass system energy at BNL-RHIC, as well as for W bosonproduction.
