Abstract: Elementary excitations of the S=1-2 one-dimensional Heisenbergantiferromagnet KCuGaF$ 6$ with exchange constant $J-k B$=103 K wereinvestigated by high-frequency ESR measurements combined with a pulsed highmagnetic field. When an external magnetic field H is applied in KCuGaF$ 6$, astaggered magnetic field h is induced perpendicular to H owing to the staggeredg tensor and the Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya DM interaction with an alternating Dvector. Consequently, KCuGaF$ 6$ in a magnetic field is represented by thequantum sine-Gordon SG model. We observed many resonance modes including asoliton resonance, breathers, interbreather transitions and two-breatherexcitation. Their resonance conditions are beautifully described by the quantumSG field theory with one adjustable parameter $c s=h-H$. To investigate therelationship between the Curie term due to the DM interaction and theproportional coefficient $c s$, magnetic susceptibility measurements were alsoperformed varying the external field direction.
