This paper assesses current issues in colleges and universities as well as in K-12 schooling, with a focus on the preparation of secondary school teachers. The paper identifies new trends in the changing nature of research and practice as they affect the history profession in the classroom. According to the paper, there are many issues that secondary school history teachers and college/university history faculty share. History educators can and must do better in engaging students in the pursuit of knowledge. The paper contends that history provides valuable information and perspectives embedded within a powerful analytical model that can be especially useful in an inconsistent and rapidly changing world.
