This report describes data from focus groups on teen pregnancy involving Hispanic parents of adolescents in four states. Participants wanted a good education for their children and positive, loving relationships with them. They wanted to communicate with their children and be closely involved in their lives. Most believed that to help prevent teen pregnancy, parents should talk to their children about sex, love, and values; supervise their activities; and know their friends. Most noted the importance of helping their children define future goals and providing them with direction on accomplishing those goals. Many parents were reluctant to openly discuss sex due to cultural traditions or embarrassment. Others said that talk about sex was only for those who are at least 18 years old and/or about to marry. Several felt that parents often fail to offer their children consistent messages about teen sex. The role of religion in teen pregnancy prevention was noted by many respondents. Almost all parents felt they could benefit from specific help on approaching their children on this topic. Three appendixes present an English translation of tips for Hispanic parents, screening questions used to select participants, and the focus group discussion guide. (SM)
