The objective of the paper was to bring together some of thepreexisting theoretical treatments ~f dummy variables in regressionanalysis and to present them in such a way as they couldbe more effectively used and interpreted. This Will enableresearchers to select the particular representation that best suitstheir hypotheses. Four alternatives were exhibited for both aone-way analysis of variance and a one-way analysis of variancewith a covariate. The predicting equations were presented in thetext of the paper along with numerical examples and theirinterpretations. The derivations of the predicting equations andvariable definitions were presented in the Appendix.
