Note(s): During 1992, the manned submersiblePC-1204 was renamed CLELIA and upgradedby Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution,Inc. to provide the underwater researchcommunity with a moderate-cost, high capability,shallow-water submersible. Thispaper will discuss the changes made to theelectrical and electronics systems to improve thecapabilities of the vehicle to performobservations, collect specimens and samples, and obtain qualitative scientific data. Theemphasis has been to retain the subsystemsthat have proven to be robust and reliable, toreplace obsolescent subsystems which aredifficult to maintain, and to add a number of1990's technologies to make the CLELIA themost effective manned submersible capable ofoperations to a depth of 1000 ft.Florida Atlantic University.
