Abstract: We construct a class of anomaly-free supersymmetric U1- models that arecharacterized by family non-universal U1- charges motivated from E 6embeddings. The family non-universality arises from an interchange of thestandard roles of the two SU5 5* representations within the 27 of E 6 for thethird generation. We analyze U1- and electroweak symmetry breaking andpresent the particle mass spectrum. The models, which include additional Higgsmultiplets and exotic quarks at the TeV scale, result in specific patterns offlavor-changing neutral currents in the b to s transitions that can accommodatethe presently observed deviations inthis sector from the SM predictions.
